Busy week(s) for neighbors
Tell RIPTA TODAY to keep the bus hub where it is! Plus training for green jobs and poll work, a land stories workshop, and support for a loving farewell.
Hi, everyone. There’s a lot going on. Try to find and do a thing that will allow you to feel connected with others, whether it’s on this list or not.
SOME THINGS TO DO WITH AND FOR OUR NEIGHBORS:
TODAY (Friday, September 13). by 3pm, remotely / Monday, September 16, 5:30, Providence City Hall, 3rd floor: by 3pm TODAY, email cityclerk@providenceri.gov. Tell them you want the Providence Comprehensive Plan changed so it doesn't call for moving the bus hub out of Kennedy Plaza.
You can also join the in-person hearing on MONDAY 9/16, 5:30pm (here is the agenda). A quick email weighing in is absolutely fine; for fuller talking points, please reply and I’ll forward you a bunch of them! You can also email your councilor.
Saturday, September 14, 7-9pm, outside Dunkin Donuts on Broad St, Providence: Sadly, Pepper Locklyn Cooley has left this life and the people who loved her. Join the candlelight vigil to celebrate her life, and/or donate to her funeral expenses.
Sunday, September 22, 3-5pm, Hocus Pocus Farm (80 Walnut St, Seekonk): Join this workshop and ritual exploration of Jewish relationship to land, home and diaspora. Snacks provided; a donation of $8-$36 is suggested. Register here! The form includes event details, including accessibility information.
ASAP (to sign up) / November 5 (to do the thing): However you feel about the presidential election, who’s in charge at the state and local level can make a big difference to a town or city. Being a poll worker is a good way to make sure people who do wish to influence their government in this way can do so. There’s a way to sign up here, but the word on the street is that it is slow and that you’re better off reaching out directly to your city or town’s board of canvassers. You can get paid! There is training involved, so getting the ball rolling now is good if you are free that day.
BY October 24: Looking for meaningful work? A career change? Join a paid training for adults interested in forestry/tree services, stormwater and wastewater operations, CPR and first aid, and more. Write to Stephanie Moniz (smoniz@groundworkri.org) or visit the Groundwork RI website to get your questions answered and apply by 10/24. Flyer below with this info (which is also on that website).
With love,
Kate
