Neighborly Actions as we go
Housing an elder, learning from an organizer, and planning with fellow tenants & workers, plus a couple bonus practices.
Hi everyone. Well, this sucks! Here are a few things to do with and for our neighbors in the coming weeks, including a couple of good general practices. No doubt there will be many more.
ASAP: An elderly neighbor and member of DARE is facing homelessness and needs our help. Let’s get her a room for a couple of months so she can resolve her situation.
Sunday, November 10, 6pm, Riffraff (60 Valley St #107A, Providence): Tarshire Battle of Roots2Empower will be reading from her book Rooted in Resilience: A Pathway towards Social Change, lessons from her journey as activist, organizer and power builder. Come and meet Tarshire, get acquainted with her work, help her raise money for its newest phase, and meet other people who work with land and food to build resilience.
Tuesday, November 19, 6pm, 95 Empire St, Providence: POWR community meeting. “Tenants and workers will get through this together,” they say, and I believe; join the meeting to find out how and be part of it.
IN GENERAL: If you have steady, above-subsistence income that you plan to keep receiving, please go back through the archives of this newsletter, choose one local ongoing group, and set up a monthly donation. Monthly donations, even small ones, help groups plan. If you already do this, you could add a little on, or you could pick a second group.
IN GENERAL: If you are planning to shift some more of your time and effort to regular community participation, but aren’t yet sure of what that will be, start by clearing the time that you can spare within each day or week. (It may not be very much! That is okay! 20 minutes a week is great!) Ask the people in your home and life to help you clear this time, which you can use for rest until you find the thing(s) you want to do.
With love,
Kate
