Neighborly Actions: Immigration & Liberation
Ending immigration detention in RI, joining the transportation team, dancing to raise funds for detainees, and pre-ordering the AMOR cookbook.
Hi, everyone. In addition to spooking it up for the People’s Port Authority and buying winter gear for those who need it, here are a few more things to do with and for our neighbors in the coming days.
TONIGHT (Thursday, October 16), 6pm, Providence City Hall (25 Dorrance St), 3rd Floor: The ban on police-ICE cooperation is on the agenda for tonight! If you can come to show your support, please do. If you can’t, calling your councilperson today will be helpful, since it’s a full council meeting: you can just say, “I support the amendments to the Community-Police Relations Act and increased protections for my family/my neighbors/my co-workers/my friends.” If you want to say more, here’s the guide.
Monday, October 20, 6-7:30pm, on Zoom (register for link): Join this call if you want to know how we can shut down the Wyatt Detention Center and end immigration detention in Rhode Island, drawing on lessons from other states. Spanish and English interpretation available! Register here.
Tuesday, October 21, 6-8pm (register for location): You can protect neighbors targeted by ICE/DHS/other federal goons by driving them to and from the places they need to go. These trainings (there’s another on November 16, 3-5pm) will prepare you to do so as safely as possible. Register here.
Saturday, October 25, 6pm-1am, The Dusty Planet (50 Agnes St, Providence): Dance your way into the dark of the year to raise funds for AMOR and Planeta. We’ve got some exciting pinatas for you to smash, but you’ll have to bring your own butt for shaking purposes. Get your tickets here.
Anytime this week, remotely: Pre-order your copy of Feeding Our Resistance, the AMOR community cookbook, with new recipes and in a new colorway! These should also be ready by Winter Gift-Giving Holiday Time if you want to get extra for your loved ones.
With love,
Kate
