Neighborly Actions to Hold Up Our Heads
Close your Microsoft account for Palestine, dance your pants off to help shelter youth, and put some teeth in a ban on police-ICE cooperation.
Hi, everyone. If you live in Providence, please sign the rent stabilization petition if you haven’t already, and keep your eye out for updates!
Here are some other things to do with and for our neighbors in the coming days.
Anytime this week, remotely: If you still have a personal Microsoft subscription, cancel it, and tell them you’re doing so because they’re still supporting the Israeli government—despite ending a major contract. If they can be moved, they can be moved again. This site gives you some follow-up steps. (Canceling your work MS account would be a longer process, but it’s a conversation you could start with coworkers.) I downloaded LibreOffice as a replacement.
Saturday, October 4, 6pm, 10 Sims Ave, Providence: Dance at the fundraiser for Haus of CODEC, which shelters and supports young adults who have “aged out” of services meant for children. You can donate if you can’t attend, or buy your ticket here.
Monday, October 6, 5:30pm, 3rd floor of City Hall (25 Dorrance St), Providence: The Mayor’s promises that PPD won’t cooperate with ICE have proved empty. City Council’s holding a hearing that could lead to a prohibition on police-ICE cooperation, as well as some protections for schools & courts (read proposed changes to the current ordinance here). Get your testimony ready, especially if you can testify with relative safety. If you’re willing to read out testimony from people who can’t safely testify, or if you’d like someone to share your testimony for that reason, please get in touch with me at schapira.kate@gmail.com.
With love,
Kate
